Prestige Stand
Introduction
Qln One was the start of truncated cabinet design for Qln. When it was launched 1981 at CES in Chicago One was the first truncated bookshelf speaker in the world. The shape is a unique Qln design with combination of visual timeless and functional design. Now 40 years later with still use the same design concept, just refining it. This the optimum cabinet design in terms of performance.
We don’t show our technical solutions, we try to hide them and just present a piece of musical furniture that can be nicely placed in your living room. All the technical solutions are present, but the only role for them is to recreate the recorded music from your source. We must not forget, that the purpose of a speaker is to recall an original sound event, making it live again and providing the same emotions we feel when listening to a big orchestra, a string quartet, a rock band, a jazz trio or just a vocal with a piano.
This is why Qln thinks of speakers as musical instruments. We know that good sound depends on the acoustic chamber just like an acoustic instrument. But opposite to music instruments we don’t create sound, we just reproduce it.
Qln has always searched for cabinet shapes and proportions that will guarantee exceptional control of internal resonance, perfect acoustics, excellent driver stability, phase response and easy integration in rooms.
As always, here at Qln the total functional design is the result of the demands for the resulting sound.
History
The designer’s approach and challenge when seeking out to refine the Qln One platform was to improve an already eloquent performance in a number of challenging performance areas including further reduction of distortion and increasing presence, timing, timbre, level of detail and micro/macro dynamics, regardless of level, scale and complexity of program material.
These endeavours have once again after Qln One was introduced 40 years ago, resulted in a timeless and perfected combination of impeccable form and function, offering an uncompromised and unique insight into any program material.
Design details
Cabinet
A slanted baffle provides perfect time alignment between woofer and tweeter. The truncated pyramid cabinet with its minimized baffle area suppresses any standing waves inside the cabinet also offering improved 3D imaging.
By again basing the cabinet construction around Qln’s unique Qboard® technology, structural resonances are eliminated. The bass reflex port with its trumpet shape eliminates air turbulence.
Cabinet is heavily braced to give stiff cabinet and the damping pads make in non resonant so the cabinet don’t store sound in the time domain. Natural wool is used for internal acoustic damping because it sound best and have a wider frequency damping of the internal sound. It is loose packed so we don’t store sound in the damping material. We use minimum damping material and apply it where it make the most use, in center and middle of the cabinet where air speed is at maximum. Then we can apply minimum damping material to achieve maximum damping of the internal sound.
Crossover
We utilize the same constant impedance crossover technology found in the rest of the Prestige series with fine tuning for the compact two-way design of the Prestige One. We have increased dynamics and even SPL by using lower loss coils to the woofer. All coils are air core, and all capacitors are of polypropylene material.
All coils are baked so the wires are glued together to reduce internal vibration.
The constant impedance crossover produces an even impedance response that eases the load an amplifier sees (especially tube amps) providing better phase coherence for the driver. The crossover is hard wired for best contact between components with as few contact points as possible. Every component is soft glued to increase damping and minimize vibrations.
Treble and bass/midrange drivers
The drivers have been specifically selected and custom developed by industry renowned Scandinavian manufacturers and offers the latest in driver technology. The Reed paper cone mid/bass driver with its built-in copper ring in the magnet system and Titanium voce coil offers a symmetric drive and higher dynamics in the midrange concurrently suppressing intermodulation distortion and resulting in industry leading high-end voice handling and an astonishing micro/macro dynamics unheard in a compact 2-way speaker design.
The 25mm wide surround tweeter offers a superb vocal presentation and excellent imaging in a wide listening area. Its large roll surround, built-in copper ring and textile dome diaphragm provides a flat frequency response above 30 KHz with an outstanding off-axis dispersion. Rear acoustic chamber gives low compression and lower the tweeters system resonance far below the crossover point.
Cables and speaker connectors
Internal cabling are our own special design cable. Special designed for use as internal speaker cable . All components are carefully hand selected and individually tested for any deviances. WBT pure copper NexgenTM pole screws are used with grip-friendly screws.
